Troubleshooting Guide

Extractors

  • No Power
    • Is the circuit breaker tripped? Reset the breaker
    • Is the power cord damaged or frayed? Call for service.
    • Is the machine plugged in? Plug in the machine.
    • Notes: Extension cords should NOT be used
  • Brush Circuit Breaker Tripping
    • Is the brush set too low? Adjust Brush using the adjustment control.
    • Is the Brush dry? Tilt machine back to raise the brush off floor. Turn on pump and brush and slowly return to floor.
    • Is the circuit breaker tripped? Reset the breaker.
    • Notes: Brush should just make contact with the carpet. Brush should be wet before introduction to carpet. Motors and pulleys should turn freely when shafts turned - Belts should not bind. Motors should be free from debris.
  • Poor Water Recovery - (Carpet is Wet and/or Streaky)
    • Is the vac shoe making uneven contact with the carpet surface? Adjust if necessary
    • Is there a minimal amount of vacuum being delivered at the vac shoe? Call for service.
    • Is the vac shoe clogged with dirt and/or debris? Remove all debris.
    • Are the hose cuffs improperly installed, loose or broken? Reinstall, tighten or replace hoses as necessary.
    • Is the vac filter clogged? Clean the filter.
    • Are there holes or obstructions in the hose? Reinstall, tighten, or replace hoses as necessary.
    • Is the dome sealing improperly? Replace gasket and trim to fit if required.
    • Is the dome cracked or broken? Replace dome.
    • Notes: Check Shoe to ensure it has not been bent during transit. Always make sure the hoses to the vac shoe are properly connected and not leaking. Check dome fit when machine operating. Dome should pull down when vac motor is running. No hissing.
  • Vacuum Motor Not Running or Circuit Breaker Tripping
    • Is the circuit breaker tripped? Reset the breaker.
    • Are the carbon brushes worn or arcing? Call for service.
  • Poor or No Water Flow(Carpet is Streaky)
    • Is the solution filter screen clogged? Clean the screen.
    • Does the pump motor fail to run when activated? Call for service.
    • Does the pump motor run and is water flow extremely reduced? Check pump head for debris and remove as necessary. Check pump valves and seals for damage.
    • Propel lever won't engage. The brush switch must be on and the propel lever squeezed to activate spray.
    • Notes: Filter screen located in tank or between tank and manifold. Strong chemicals will deform all rubber seals and valves. To clean, do not use a knife, pick or wire. Jets are made of brass and are softer than steel.
  • Poor Spray Pattern
    • Are the spray jets providing poor quality fine fan spray? Clean using a vinegar/water solution or replace jets that do not provide fine spray.
    • Does the spray pattern on the carpet show excessive overlaps in coverage or dry spaces between wet areas? Check manifold and check for bent roller bracket. Call for service.
    • Notes: Damage to the manifold assembly or roller bracket is common if equipment is regularly transported.
  • Machine Leaks Water After Pump Shut Off
    • Is there moisture under or around tank from cracks or other damage? Call for service.
    • Is there moisture leaking down from hoses? Make sure all hose clamps are tightened.
    • If the machine has a solenoid switch, is it functioning? Clean or replace solenoid as necessary.
    • Does water run through the pump assembly? Check for debris in pump head; remove debris and clean head. Check for a damaged anti-drip valve located in the pump head housing.
    • Notes: To test, make sure solenoid engages when powered and seals tightly. Check pump head for debris by depressing plunger in check valve; should spring back and seat against body.
  • Machine Will Not Propel When Handles Are Squeezed (Propel Units Only)
    • Is the circuit breaker tripped? Reset the beaker.
    • Is there a bad connection? Check connections.
    • Is the traverse motor disconnected? Reconnect the motor.
    • Battery Burnishers No Power or Low Power
    • Have the batteries been poorly maintained? Charge batteries. Check connections and clean terminals. Test and replace if necessary.
    • Is the power switch damaged or faulty? Reset the breaker.
    • Are there any loose wire connections inside the machine at the switches and/or terminal blocks? Reconnect and tighten accordingly.
    • Notes: Always check water level after charging. Should cover plates. Check each cell using hydrometer.
  • Pad Drive Motor Will Not Run
    • Is the power switch damaged or faulty? Call for service.
    • Is the pad drive circuit breaker tripped? Reset the breaker.
    • Does the drive handle switch operate improperly?? Check adjustment.
    • Is actuator linkage not contacting plunger switch? Adjust switch according to manual.
    • Is plunger switch faulty? Call for service.
  • Lift Mechanism Not Working
    • Is the breaker tripped? Reset the breaker.
    • Is the actuator motor faulty? Call for service.
    • Is control board operating correctly? Call for service.
    • Notes: On automatic units, the control board can be fooled if the machine is shut off prior to completing its cycle. If the control panel lights blink, turn the machine off, wait 30 seconds and restart machine. In some cases, it may be necessary to disconnect batteries, wait, and restart.
  • No Forward Movement (on Automatic Machines)
    • Is the power switch damaged or faulty? Call for service.
    • Is the drive motor circuit breaker tripped? Reset the breaker.
    • Is the micro switch in the handle faulty? Call for service.
    • Are the potentiometers in handle faulty? Call for service.
    • With power applied to motor, does it fail to run? Call for service.
  • Automatic Deck Hunts Up and Down
    • Is the actuator spring out of adjustment? Adjust as necessary.
    • Is the drive motor circuit breaker tripped? Reset the breaker.
    • On startup deck not going down to ready position.
    • Is the actuator barrel out of adjustment? Adjust as necessary. If properly adjusted, call for service.
    • Notes: For 22" machines, use 22" pads. Felt seal must float up and down and not leak air.
